Looking Forward to 2022: Hopes from the Lake District

Like everyone else, our hope for the New Year is that things can only get better. We had a lovely Christmas, rounding off what turned out to be a much better year than we expected, here at the Cedar Manor. But now our hope is for you all to enjoy good health and happiness in 2022.

And we decided to ask some of our friends in the Lake District to tell us what THEY hope for in the New Year.

Hopes for the National Park

"Out of the turbulence of the pandemic came a positive change to people visiting the Lakes. We saw a younger and more diverse visitor, often coming for the first time to connect with nature and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of their national park. I hope in 2022 that this trend continues and people return. We’ll be working with our partners to help people deepen their connection with the amazing landscapes of the national park. Of course we’d encourage visitors to be kind, stay safe, and support our ongoing work to look after the Lake District.

2022 is a critical year for seeing action on the ground to reduce the park’s carbon impact, restore nature and tackle increasing urgent issues like improving the water quality in Windermere so our wildlife can continue to flourish there. Whilst these are some of the major issues we have over the next decade, making a good start on them in 2022 will be vital. Perhaps you can help us by leaving that car at the hotel and donating to nature restoration work via the Lake District Foundation, supported by Cedar Manor."

Personal Celebrations and Hopes

"I’m looking forward to getting married in the exquisite setting of Rydal Mount in the summer. So I hope that all those planning events or ceremonies of any kind will be able to celebrate freely with their friends and family throughout 2022. (I’m also looking forward to getting a new dog!)"

Tourism and Innovation

"Creating Covid-safe experiences has required the sector to adapt much of their operations and I hope and expect to see further brilliant innovation that will benefit businesses and customers. We have seen a fresh appreciation of what we have on our doorstep so I hope 2022 will once again see Cumbria playing a vital role as a haven for the health and wellbeing of the nation.

Cumbria Tourism’s 2021 campaign, encouraging visitors to discover places off the well known tourist track, saw real success and I hope people return and explore wider still, that they visit out of season too, supporting an all year round visitor economy."

Valuing What Matters

"I hope 2022 will be the year when humanity starts to value what truly sustains them, rather than worshipping the false gods of consumerism."

Slowing Down and Enjoying Cumbria

"I reckon 2022 has to be the year to stop rushing around trying to cram too many things into every hour of the day and instead, slow down, zoom right in and bask in the brilliance of 'now'. I'm going to spend more time making the most of this fabulous county of Cumbria, from the jaw-dropping Lake District landscape to the raw wildness of the coast, to the ever improving and expanding flock of fine cafes and pubs. And I'm intending to share all that with family and friends - whether they like it or not! It's going to be a good one."

Hospitality and Community

"After the sterling job Cumbrian hospitality did in 2021, it surely augurs well for 2022 to be even better. We will be thrilled to welcome old friends and new at Zeffirellis, and wish you all a very happy new year."

Health, Family, and Friendship

"My hope for the New Year is that everyone prioritises health, family and friendship. One of my favourite quotes is always: Aspire not to have more but to be more. And my personal aim is to make this world a happier place by being happy and helping others whenever and wherever I can."

Looking Ahead with Hope

“I can only hope that 2022 brings normality and stability for us all, in whatever forms they may be, following the unprecedented challenges and uncertainty of the last two years. We want to be able to better plan and increase our levels of customer service and our product for our valued guests. And ensure that our amazing Lake District remains a world class location for all. I have no doubt that I'm not alone in thanking my team at The Lamplighter unreservedly for their hard work, patience and dedication during this period as they are every business's greatest asset. Wishing you all a truly wonderful 2022."
