A brief history of Cedar Manor

A Victorian country manor house turned majestic guesthouse-style hotel, Cedar Manor is full of character and charm.

Located in a little patch of paradise, Cedar Manor was built in 1854 by the renowned architect J.S. Crowther as a country house retreat. Crowther is best known for major restoration works to Manchester Cathedral but also designed many notable buildings around Windermere, including St Mary’s Church and Holehird.

When Jonathan and Caroline stumbled across Cedar Manor in 2005 , it was love at first sight. They knew instantly that they’d found something special.

At the time, the house was a rather tired hotel and required a comprehensive programme of restoration and renovation. It’s been a true labour of love for Jonathan and Caroline, bringing in the best local craftspeople and talented designers to put the heart and soul back into this glorious manor house.

After a new roof, plumbing, wiring, re-designing and redecorating, Cedar Manor now has ten gorgeous, individually designed rooms, including the luxurious Coach House Suite - the jewel in the crown of designer Alison Tordoff.

A raft of national and international awards in everything from sustainability to customer service shows that Jonathan and Caroline’s hard work has truly paid off.
